How to play Dart Duel

  1. 1Pick who you’re playing: the computer, a friend online with a room code, a friend on the same screen, or someone new with Quick match.
  2. 2Pick Best of 3 or Best of 5.
  3. 3Tap anywhere on the board to throw your dart. It sticks where the disc is when it lands.
  4. 4Hit a dart that's already in, or a peg, and you lose the round.
  5. 5Win 2 rounds of 3, or 3 of 5, to win the match.

Rules

  • Two players take turns throwing one dart at a time at the same spinning disc. Your darts are in your colour.
  • A dart that lands closer than 11 degrees to another dart, or to a peg, bounces off and you lose the round. The disc holds 32 darts at most, so every round ends.
  • Round 1 is a plain disc that turns once every 4 seconds. From round 2 the disc has pegs and bonuses, and later rounds turn back, speed up and slow down.
  • Stick a dart in a bonus to take it. A shield saves you from your next hit that round; a slow spin halves the disc's speed for your next throw.
  • Who throws first swaps every round. Best of 3 is first to 2 rounds; best of 5 is first to 3.

Dart Duel questions

How do you play Dart Duel?

Take turns tapping to throw a dart at a spinning disc. Hit a dart that's already in and you lose the round. Win 2 rounds of 3, or 3 of 5, to win the match.

How close can two darts be?

11 degrees apart, about where their flights would touch. Any closer and the new dart bounces off. A peg counts the same as a dart (it has a red band either side to show how close is too close), so the safest spot is the middle of the biggest gap.

What are the pegs and the stars?

From round 2 the disc has pegs, shown as red 🚫 signs, and bonus stars. Miss the pegs. Stick a dart in a star to take it: a shield saves you from your next hit that round, and a slow spin halves the disc's speed for your next throw.

Does the disc always spin the same way?

No. Round 1 turns once every 4 seconds and round 2 a bit faster. Round 3 turns back every few seconds, round 4 goes the other way and speeds up and slows down, and round 5 does both. The disc keeps the same speed whoever's turn it is, and it never speeds up for the computer.

What's a good Dart Duel strategy?

Throw into the biggest gap, not the nearest one, and watch the disc go round once before you tap. Take a shield when it's safe: late in a round, when the disc is full, it's worth a round.

Can I play Dart Duel with a friend online?

Yes. Tap Invite a friend and send them the link; when they open it you're in the same game. Or pass one phone or tablet between you.

How hard is the computer?

Three levels. All three aim for the middle of the biggest gap: Easy misses by up to 25 degrees, Medium by up to 11, and Hard by up to 4. Hard goes for a bonus when it's safe.
